What makes our index different
Broad coverage, clean display
Academe uses overlapping scholarly sources where the coverage is useful. Duplicate hits are collapsed by DOI, title, author, venue, and year signals so search results stay readable while the index remains broad.
Harmonized metadata
Author names, institutional affiliations, venues, funders, and topic labels are normalized to stable IDs so common spelling variants resolve to the same record where the evidence is strong.
Citation graph
Reference lists and cited-by links are preserved when available and made walkable. You can pivot from a paper to the papers it cites, the papers that cite it, and the nearby conversation around an idea.
Regularly refreshed
New works are refreshed on source-specific schedules. Preprint-to-published-version links are reconciled so a cited preprint can point toward the final peer-reviewed version when that relationship is available.
Open-access aware
Records carry open-access status, licence data, and, when available, a direct link to a full-text copy. Academe surfaces open versions first when it can.
Peer-review signal
Each work is tagged with its review status (peer-reviewed journal article, preprint, editorial, letter, thesis, working paper, grey literature). Filter it however your field expects.
Topic & concept tagging
Works are tagged against a 65,000-concept hierarchy spanning major fields. You can filter searches by concept, so "attention mechanisms in transformers" is treated as more than a keyword match.
Retraction-aware
The index is reconciled against major retraction sources. If a paper you’ve cited is retracted or has a correction issued, Academe can flag it the next time you open the project.
Licence-clean
Full-text ingestion respects publisher and licence terms. Closed-access abstracts and metadata are always available; full text only when the licence permits it.
Multilingual
Works in 65+ languages are indexed, with original-language titles preserved and English translations provided where available. Searches work across languages.
Cross-linked with your project
Papers you import are stitched into your project’s context graph. The more you read, the more project-specific signal Academe has for future search results.
Identifier-complete
Records carry the identifiers we can reconcile across scholarly metadata systems, author registries, and institution registries. Citing a paper here gives the bibliography engine the metadata it needs.
Versioned
Preprints, revised preprints, and final published versions are linked as an explicit lineage where source metadata supports it. Citations can stay attached to the version you read while still showing the broader publication path.
Full-text parsed
When we have licit access to full text, we parse sections, paragraphs, figures, tables, equations, and references. Academe can cite a specific paragraph or table row, not just a paper as a whole.
Evidence-linked
Datasets, code repositories, clinical-trial registrations, protocols, and patents are cross-linked to the publications they support. Follow a claim straight to the primary evidence behind it.
Semantically embedded
Works are embedded with a scientific-text encoder so the agent can find papers by meaning, not only keywords, and cluster results by topic on demand.
Field-aware
A 65,000-concept taxonomy annotates indexed works. You can filter by concept, not only keyword, and the agent uses concepts to reason about adjacency across fields.
Bench-tested
Our retrieval stack is evaluated against public scholarly benchmarks such as BEIR, TREC-COVID, SciDocs, and SciRepEval, plus internal regression suites. Relevance is measured, not assumed.
