Trash & Recovery

Nothing you delete in Academe vanishes immediately. You have fifteen days to bring it back.

How deletion works

When you delete a file, note, comment, or chat conversation, it moves to the Trash. It stops showing up in your project, but it is still there if you change your mind.

Items sit in Trash for 15 days, then purge permanently. Each item shows a “days remaining” count so nothing surprises you.

What lives in Trash

  • Files and uploaded documentsPDFs, Word, slides, spreadsheets, and other uploaded project files.
  • Notes and draftsAny writing created in the editor.
  • Chat conversationsRecoverable research-agent conversations.
  • Comments and annotationsIncluding threads you resolved earlier.
  • Memory entriesAnything you chose to clear from project memory.

Restoring items

Open Trash from the sidebar or account settings. Hover an item and click Restore. It returns to its original project and folder with citations, comments, and history intact.

Need the space sooner? Delete forever skips the grace period and removes it immediately.

Cancelled accounts

If you close your account, recoverable workspace data is retained in the same 15-day grace window in case you come back. After that, we purge it permanently on the schedule published in our privacy docs.
